I would like to get an estimate on testing and repairing any needed parts of our antique ( assuming it is antique,) doorbell. I love the way it sounds, from manually striking the chimes, but doesn\'t seem to work...

We purchased our present home in 1998. It was custom built in 1983 with many upgrades that were available at that time. Unfortunately since we have lived here the system does not work. I think what we have may be on the large size as far as the measurements of each room speaker and the main system as well. because of this we are afraid we are looking at a major renovation to replace it. New drywall and all that. Is there a possibility that it can be repaired or does Rittenhouse have a replacement that would fit? Please advise.Thank you,Marie Gunderman

This problem may be caused by a lighted doorbell. After the bell is wrung, the light will re-illuminate. When that happens it may be drawing just enough power to make the door chimes think that the button was pressed once again. This is a repeating pattern.If a lighted door button is used, the solution is to either replace the button with a non-lighted version, or open the button and disconnect the light inside it.Yes, I had this problem myself. I had replaced an old doorbell button with a new, lighted one. I ripped out the tiny light inside and it worked fine after that.

The M9305 out side station is my problem, the speaker is fried and the button is missing. A plunger on my 50 year old door chime is not returning to the rest position when the door chime is not activated. The small piston that strikes the chime does not return back to the original position. There is a spring on the piston. It seems like the piston should have a retainer of some sort on the end to hold the spring in place. Existing model was put in my home maybe late 60\'s, with ivory base unit and 4 ivory receivers plus brass door unit intercom. The radio reception is irregular, fades in and out and there is much static. Sometimes have to jiggle knobs on base unit to tune radio!
