This problem may be caused by a lighted doorbell. After the bell is wrung, the light will re-illuminate. Similiar issue, my doorbell kept sticking. So I replaced the sticky button but now my springs inside the bell housing seem to be sprung and unable to move the plunger the full range to ring or retract.
