I have the exact same problem, but it\'s not caused by a lighted doorbell. Without the doorbell connect (and not crossing the wires) the chime mechanism keeps repeating. I\'m not sure whether it\'s because the contacts aren\'t lined up correctly or whether it\'s a wiring problem. Existing model was put in my home maybe late 60\'s, with ivory base unit and 4 ivory receivers plus brass door unit intercom. We purchased our present home in 1998. It was custom built in 1983 with many upgrades that were available at that time. Unfortunately since we have lived here the system does not work. I think what we have may be on the large size as far as the measurements of each room speaker and the main system as well. because of this we are afraid we are looking at a major renovation to replace it. Ihave about a 30 year old rittenhouse with 4 chimes.It seems that the solenoids that activate the strikers,are getting a little lazy.I have had one apart and try to clean it ,with not much succes,I even lost one of those tiny springs. The small piston that strikes the chime does not return back to the original position. There is a spring on the piston. It seems like the piston should have a retainer of some sort on the end to hold the spring in place.
